Hockhocking Adena Bikeway University Estates spur design released by City of Athens

On Thursday April 5th, the City of Athens Public Works Dept held an open house to release the design and plans for the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway University Estates spur trail. This project is the third phase of the Northwest Athens Bikeway Spur Project: Armitage Road to University Estates Boulevard.

Athens Bikeway Spur Phase III Proposed Layout

The new trail spur will have a 10 foot wide paved surface with a grade of from just over 1% to 9.5% at its steepest. Construction is planned to begin this summer and to be completed by September 2019. Estimated project costs are a total of $392,500 with just over $80,000 coming from city coffers.

The city is soliciting comments on the project plan via a comment form and online survey via SurveyMonkey.

For more information you can view the Project Information SheetAlignment and Profile drawings, and Proposed Layout Map (also see image above).

Phase I of the Northwest Athens Bikeway Spur Project connected from the bikeway in W. State St. Park through the Little Fish wetland, to Armitage Road near Little Fish Brewing. Phase II connected from the bikeway at the end of Armitage Road near the railroad crossing, to Columbus Road, near ACENET and Devil’s Kettle Brewing. [Note the Columbus Road spur trail is currently closed due to flooding impacts and will be undergoing repairs over the coming weeks.]
